Jo Daviess County is located in extreme northwest Illinois.
The largest city and seat is Galena. It is named for Joseph Hamilton Daveiss, a former U.S. District Attorney from Kentucky who was killed in the 1811 battle of Tippecanoe.
It borders Stephenson and Carroll County Illinois, Grant and Lafayette County Wisconsin as well as Dubuque and Jackson County Iowa.
